Asheville Spring Adventures

The adventure season in and around Asheville will soon be kicking into high-gear since Spring is just around the corner. While Spring officially starts on March 19th of 2020 in the Northern Hemisphere, the weather usually tends to start warming up around the end of February (although we have seen snow as late as May in North Carolina!). It also doesn’t hurt that daylight savings time kicks in around the same time (Sunday, March 8th if you are wondering) providing more daylight late into the evening hours. With the additional daylight and warmer weather comes adventure, as more and more people, locals and visitors alike, take advantage of many things to see and do in and around Asheville and Western North Carolina. So what are some of our favorite springtime adventures? The options are definitely numerous…

Wine ToursWine Tours

It is no secret that winery tours are one of our favorite things to do as we write and post about them often.  Who wouldn’t love visiting these beautiful places though?  Bud-break usually happens in March and the vines quickly become green as the growing season begins.  While there is something to do year round at each of the wineries, Spring is especially nice.  After months of cooler weather it is also nice to enjoy the warmth of the sun while sitting outside for a change.  With 200+ wineries in North Carolina and several new ones opening this year, there is always an undiscovered winery somewhere to explore alone or with friends.  Remember that if you need someone to drive you on your winery tour, the Van in Black is your ticket to a great experience.  Our 5-star service is unmatched in this area.

Blue Ridge ParkwayDrive Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

The parkway is usually closed to vehicle traffic during the winter months and will start opening in the Spring. The timing depends on the weather and any necessary maintenance that is performed “off season”.  Rest assured though, the Blue Ridge Parkway will open back up and the springtime is a wonderful time to enjoy a ride on America’s favorite road.  It is usually a lot less crowded compared to the fall months and some of the views will be optimal as there are still less or no leaves on the trees.  You may see things you normally don’t get to see during the summer or fall.  Take your time and enjoy the iconic views along the way.  If you want someone to drive you and your group along the parkway, give us a call.  Scenic tours in our large and spacial Sprinter vans are excellent due to the exceptionally large windows on all sides of the van.

Otter FallsHiking

Western North Carolina and the Upstate of South Carolina have an abundance of hiking trails to some truly epic locations.  Whether it is a waterfall, rocky gorge, untouched old growth forest, or pristine rivers and lakes, you could probably hike a new trail everyday for a year and still just scratch the surface of what is available to enjoy in the Carolina’s.  It is such a vast and wonderful place to enjoy and springtime is quite possibly the best time for grabbing a friend and hitting the trails.  The Carolina’s have trails for just about every experience and fitness level so there is something for everyone to enjoy.  If you need a good resource for finding a hiking trail near you (or where you are going to be), check out www.HDCarolina.com for information and high-definition videos of hundreds of destinations in North and South Carolina.
